The Story Behind My Ballet Diaries

I never planned to create a series of Ballet Diaries. The idea started quietly during a time when life pushed me out of the studio. After a health setback earlier this year, I suddenly had space to slow down and reflect. Those weeks away from teaching gave me time to dream, and the vision slowly started to unfold—colourful diaries, each with its own theme and personality, each created with purpose.
I wanted to design something meaningful for young dancers. A place where they could write down corrections, goals and personal reflections. A space to celebrate progress, stay motivated and look back on the little moments that matter. But also something more: a book that would help them learn about the history of ballet, the great ballets and dancers who came before them, and the beauty of our art form.
One day I simply sat down and began. The ideas didn’t come slowly or in pieces—they arrived with clarity and purpose. I could see exactly what each diary would become: the colours, the weekly reflections, the themes, the historical spotlights, the ballets and dancers I wanted to feature. It felt like the pages were already waiting to be written. All I had to do was follow the vision.
The creative process was a balance of instinct and research. Some ideas came from years of teaching and dancing, and others came from sitting with the details, researching ballet history and choosing which stories to tell. I followed my artistic intuition first, and then expanded it with structure and information. Slowly, the pages began to grow into something bigger than a notebook—they became a space for young dancers to learn, reflect and be inspired.
More than anything, I wanted these diaries to give dancers a sense of motivation and support. Ballet is a journey of discipline and dreams, a path that asks for so much of the heart. Progress doesn’t always appear in big leaps—often it happens quietly, in the small moments no one sees.
I imagined these diaries as a gentle companion along the way. A place where young dancers could write their thoughts, their corrections, their joys and challenges. A place that reminds them that every step matters. That they are growing. That they are not alone in the process.
From that first spark, the diaries became my creative world for months. I spent countless hours designing each page, choosing colours, writing prompts and imagining how the diaries would feel in a dancer’s hands. I wanted every detail to serve a purpose—from the weekly reflections to the ballet history, from the little moments of inspiration to the space for memories.
Slowly, the vision turned into something tangible. Page by page, level by level, the diaries took shape. What began as a quiet idea on paper became something I could touch, flip through and hold.
When the first printed diary arrived, it felt like everything at once—surreal, emotional, healing and overwhelmingly meaningful. I remember holding it in my hands and realising that this little idea, born during such a quiet and uncertain moment, had become something real. A book with weight, colour and purpose. Something created with so much love that it almost felt alive. It was a reminder that even in the slow or difficult seasons, beautiful things can grow.
These diaries are more than books. They are a reminder that creativity can grow from unexpected places, that ideas can turn into something real, and that every dancer—no matter their level—deserves to feel supported and inspired along the way.
My hope is that these pages become a home for dreams and progress. That they help young dancers believe in themselves, celebrate their journey and carry their love for ballet into the future. And maybe, just maybe, they will remind someone that beautiful things can grow from the simplest spark of an idea.
If you’d like to explore the diaries or bring them into your studio, you can view the collection here.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
